Where mathematics meets ecology to uncover how living systems grow, adapt and endure
Mathematical Ecology is based in the Life and Mind Building, Department of Biology, University of Oxford.
We use mathematics to reveal patterns, processes, and connections that are difficult to see but essential to understanding how diseases spread, ecosystems change, and people interact with the natural world. Across these areas, we develop mathematical models and unique datasets to explore uncertainty and generate new insight.
Our work is organised around a portfolio of projects, each bringing together different combinations of theory, data, experimentation, and application. Collectively, these projects demonstrate the powerful role quantitative thinking can play, whilst remaining connected to the biological systems and real-world decisions they seek to inform.
